English: The last home of Rosarie Gicanda, the last Queen of Rwanda (The wife of Rwandan King Mutara III Rudahigwa), is located in Huye district, Ngoma Sector in Southern Province of Rwanda in face of Huye International Stadium along the highway – just one kilometer to the ethnographic museum of Huye (Now the headquarters of the institute of national museum of Rwanda).
This building hosted the Queen between 1964 and 1994 when she was killed during the Genocide against Tutsi on 20th April. The building that dates from colonial-era was transferred into the institute of national museum properties in August 2019 and became the Museum Property. It is said that this house is being redesigned to give it the original look and equip it with the materials that recall the Queen’s life and her interaction with the community. |
